Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians Sports Club have been given money to aid the funding of an all-weather floodlit sports pitch.
Persimmon Homes West Scotland has given the sports club a £1,000 donation as part of its Community Champions scheme, which funds groups and charities across the region.
The club based in Newton Mearns provides physical education and recreational facilities for people living in East Renfrewshire at its clubhouse and pitches at Braidholm playing fields in Giffnock.
The club are working hard to improve their facilities by raising money to construct an all-weather floodlit sports pitch that can then be used by local clubs and groups including GHA Rugby Football Club. The total cost of the pitch is £580,000 with almost £55,000 already raised from member donations. A fundraising dinner is to be held at the Glasgow Marriot Hotel on 20th April for 500 people and grant applications are lodged with the Scottish Rugby Union and Sport Scotland.
Brian Williams, GHA Sports Trust chairman, said: “We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes for this donation. While we have a long way to go to raise all the funds for our all-weather pitch and we rely heavily on the generosity of local businesses to help us reach our target.”
Doug Law, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians Sports Club are a perfect example of the kind of community club that the Community Champions initiative was created to support.
“We look forward to seeing the club continuing to reach their target and hopefully creating budding athletes of the future.”
